Unit1:Up and About

1-1: Johnny's position in the Lapham house is to get everything together. He is the boss of the attic, as well as Dove and Dusty.

1-2: Dove and Johnny do not get along very well, Dove is jealous of Johnny, and so he does not really like him. Dove was lonely and admired Johnny as well as envied him. Johnny prefered to bully Dove.

3-1: Johnny is serious about his work. He wanted to be a Silversmith, and he saw his shop crowded with boys with mothers, boys with fathers, all begging to be allowed to work for him.

3-2: Mr. Hancock and Sam Adams are calling themselves Patriots. Mr. Hancock, and Sam Adams never read God's word like their parents did, which is telling us to be humble.
4-1: Johnny shows that he is serious about his work, while Dove and Dusty went swimming, and Mr.Lapham sleeps. Johnny knows he has to work hard to be a Silversmith.
6-1:The crest of Lytes looks like an eye, rising up from the sea, light streamed out from the cup. The feelings it conveys is saddness because the symbol is stamped on the gravestones of the Lyte family.

Unit 2: The Pride of Your Power
1-1: Johnny turns down Paul Revere's offer because he is loyal to the Lapham's, and without him nothing would get done, and they would starve.
3-1:Johnny walked towards the furnace to pour the silver,the crucible began to crumble, and spilt some beesewax on the floor and he didnt clean it up, he was in a hurry and slipped on it and his hand came down on the top of the furnace. Those are the important events that led to Johnnys burned hand.
5-1: Johnny's life changed as a result of the burn on his hand, he can't do what he used to. He was having a hard time with doing just little thigs. Dove and Dusty begin to be more valuable than Johnny

Unit 3: An Earth of Brass
1-1:Rab tells Johnny that he can still get a job with his crippled hand. He would have to do more unskilled jobs though. Rab says nothing about Johnny's hand and doesn't offer to help him. Rab is the first person Johnny had confided his own story, so he must like, and trust Rab.
3-1: "Earth of Brass" can relate to Johnny's professional life as a Silversmith because, he used to feel special like siver, but now that he is cripled he feels like useless, old brass.

Unit4: The Rising Eye
1:1 The merchant Lyte is stubborn, and is hot- tempered, and he is strict.
2:1 The veiws on the Stomp act was that the Whigs thought that taxation without representation is tyranny. The Tories thought that all differences could be settled with time, patience, and respect for government, the Stomp Act.
5:1 Some forms of criminal punishment are mentioned, like ordered fined, whippings, set in stocks, or held for a higher court.
5:2 The court favors Johnny because, they think that Johnny is realated to Mr. Lyte. Almost immediately the judge dismissed the case after he saw the young 8 year old Isannah. There was not the slightest evidence that Johnny had stolen the cup.

Unit 5: The Boston Observer
2:1 Johnny's responsibilities as a messanger is to ride a horse, and deliver the paper to people. He is important to the Whig's communication system because he delivers the paper, which carries important news, its the only way for people to find out information.
3,4:1 Johnny likes his new life, but is slightly homesick about the Lamphams, expessally Cillia, and Mrs. Lampham.
3,4:2 Some people think that they have to live up to the expectations of others, because they want respect, and they dont want to disappoint anyone.
3,4:3 Rab suggests to Johnny that he should count to ten before he says something that he will regret in the future.
3,4:4 The Observers' Club was treasonous, because it was the beginning of a rebellion against England.


Unit 6: Salt- Water Tea
5:1 Johnny had to learn how to use an axe with his left hand, in order to play a part in the Tea Party.

Unit7: The Fiddler's Bill
1:1 England says that no ship, except England's warships, are allowed to enter the Boston Harbor, until the tea was paid for.
1:2 All the colonies knew what that meant for Boston. They all became enraged, rebeled against England, and wanted to do something about it.
General Gage thinks that everything will fall into place.
3:1 He knew that the Colonel would never get the horse, so he thought that Johnny was funny.
3:2 Johnny defended Dove because he has learned to control his temper, he also knows what its like to be bullied, because of his hand.
4:1 Johnny's feelings have changed because of Mr. Lapham dying the past spring. He now feels sorry for Mrs. Lapham, for she did everything in her power to keep everything together. She struggled for good, plentiful food, the clean shirts for the boys, the scrubbed floors, and polished brass.
5:1 Mrs. Bessie, the housekeeper, is Sam Adam's spy in the Lyte household.


Unit 8: A World to Come
1:1 The Sons of Liberty want to fight back against the Tories. Mr. Lyte is a Tory, so they are going to drive him out of town.
2:1 The Bible reveals that Johnny is Lyte's grandnephew through the piece of paper that shows the Lyte's genealogy.
2:2 Johnny is referring about how the Lytes where driven out of town. He thinks that there is going to be a war between them and the English.
5:1 James Otis wants to end all tyranny in the world, and for freedom to be available to everyone.


Unit 9: The Scarlet Deluge
3:1 Johnny has become smarter and more humble in this chapter than from the beginning of this novel.
3-2 The Minute Men are preparing for war by making their own bullets, and then making their own gunpowder from the things they own.
5-1 When Johnny looks into "the face of death", he feels terrifed. He was thinking of the blue smock his mom made him, that was being ripped apart by bullets.

Unit 10: "Disperse, Ye Rebles"
1:1 One day the British transports had been readying their landing boats. Also General Gage sent out spies dressed as Yankee men looking for jobs, led the partriots to believe that the British are beginning to move against the rebels.They were always ready to attack.
1:2 The signal to Charlestown that the Patriot plan to use if the British move is; if the British go out over the Neck, they will show one lantern, and if in boats-two lanterns. The warning will help Partriots because it will help them to know where they are, and to not get killed.
2:1 Rab decides to leave Boston because there would be fighting before the week was out and he intended to be in it. Johnny took the news badly, Johnny didn't want him to desert him.

Unit 11: Yankee Doodle
1:1 The first battle is in Lexington. The British were defeated by the Minute Men even though the British outnumbered the Minute Men seven hundred against seventy.
3:1 None of the opposition leaders were in Boston, so the British couldn't punish them.
4:1 The widow's mark on Johnny's forehead was the detail that convinced Lavinia to find out more about Jonny's past.
5:1 " A boy in time of peace and a man in time of war" means that the war helped make Johnny a man in his eyes. If the war didn't happen than he would still be a boy, and no one would take him seriously.

Unit 12: A Man Can Stand Up
1:1 Johnny rolled around in mud, tore his jacket, and smeared his face with blood. He did that so he could fit in with the wounded, down at the wharf.
2:1 A group of farmers had just won against an enormous empire, with trained soldiers, would amaze anyone, including Johnny.
3:1 Johnny was thinking about all the Minute Men that fought on Lexington Green, and how outnumbered they were against the British. Most people would have given up considering how outnumbered they were, but they had faith, hope, and determanation, and they won. Johnny was almost about to cry when he was thinking about it.
5:1 Rab dies because the doctors didn't know how to stop that amount of bleeding. Johnny is stunned, and can't believe Rab died and he feels alone, and he is very sad.
5:2 Johnny doesn't feel any shame about his crippled hand anymore because he knows that some people have worse outcomes than he does with his hand. He felt free, light, unreal, and utterly alone.
